HipsterOverkill presents The Fringe WMC Miami Edition & HipsterOverkill Volume 3

In honor of HipsterOverkill’s first anniversary, a special Winter Music Conference edition of The Fringe will be held in Miami on March 26, 2 to 6 p.m.
The Fringe’s rooftop/poolside venue — with stunning views of the city, bay and beach — will be in Miami’s North Bay area at 7934 West Drive and will boast local DJ, D-Up from the Delano along with the crowd-pleasing regulars, Dimitris George, DJ Tru and host, MC Shawn Lucas. (This event is free to conference attendees and open to the public.)
The formula for the music will be the same as it is for Washington, D.C.’s “best electro party” monthly with a heavy dose of Electro, House and Baltimore House. The Fringe has been consistently chosen as an Editor’s Pick by The Washington Post’s Going Gurus. Those who have partied at The Fringe include Rob Garza (Thievery Corporation), Jesse Tittsworth, Dave Nada (Nadastrom) and Jeff Fahey (Grindhouse).
As an increasingly popular online magazine, HipsterOverkill.com provides a news platform with exclusive content, aimed at covering emerging trends in music, artists, DJs, lifestyle, culture, fashion, viral video and events. In the past year, HipsterOverkill.com has grown to 400,000 hits per month, while releasing a highly acclaimed self-entitled mix series. Volume 3 of the mix series with me (Dimitris George) and DJ Tru will also be pre-released at the rooftop event with featured artists, A-Trak, Treasure Fingers, Gigi Barocco, Nadastrom, Diplo, The Count & Sinden, et al. I would like to thank DJ Bis for coming and spinning a great set! The next party is going to even doper with a special guest and other surprises that we are going to unveil next week! Virgin Mobile Fest Video Blog

Hey people!!  I know this is a bit late but here is the video blog from Virgin Mobile Fest 2008 with MC Shawn Lucas!!

Virgin Mobile Fest…

As I am writing this blog and recollecting my thoughts about the highlights of the second day at the Virgin Mobile Fest in Baltimore, I have to be completely honest and tell you that am completely drained and exhausted so please bare with me….

First off, I have to say that Virgin/Mr. Richard Branson did a superb job picking the talent that would grace the two stages and dance tent.  The acts for the second day included Chromeo, Rabbit in the Moon, Deadmau5, Richard Hawtin, Moby, Armin Van Buuren, Lil Wayne, Paramore, Taking Back Sunday, The Black Keys, Iggy Pop, Stone Temple Pilots, Bob Dylan, NIN & Kanye West.  Obviously not all of these groups/performers were great so I am going to put them into three sections Ugly, Pretty Good, Great & Rock Star Status…

Ugly:

Rabbit in the Moon–What a horrible show!!  These guys were awful!!  They are so reminiscent of rave music in the late 90s. One guy was a dead ringer for Will Farrell’s character Mugato from Zoolander!! I’m thinking they’ve been watching Matrix and Blade too much…

Can u really take this guy making music seriously!!! LOL

Lil Wayne–Pretty Bad…Only redeeming quality is when Kanye came out to do Lollipop with him.  He just couldn’t hold the attention of the crowd…

Bob Dylan–Bad Show/Wrong Crowd!

Iggy Pop–Damn, please put your shirt back on…

Armin Van Buuren–Please, Please, Please…Read the crowd better….

Richard Hawtin–Who is the guy??  LOL  That is the review I got from some folks…

Pretty Good:

Deadmau5–Played some great electro!!

Chromeo–WOW!!  A really good show even people who don’t know their music loved it!!  Virgin gotta put these guys on alot later than 12.30!!

Paramore–Sounded good for a pop band!!  Had all the 16 year old girls singing along!!

STP–Hot Show!!

Great:

NIN–Trent Reznor killed it!!

Moby–His DJ set was so energetic!!  He had everybody dancing even himself!!

Rock Star Status:

Kanye West–There were alot of great performers there yesterday.  Only one Rock Star and thats Kanye!! This show was on the level of those great arena shows that you always hear about!  He has truly come into his own!!

Overall this was a great show and can’t wait until next year!!
